I was recently asked by a client about adding video from YouTube to a website. Here is an example of how it can be done and added to a blog. I think one upside to this is that the blog entry will be archived later so that it can still be viewed for years to come, but won’t be a focus for a website that may only want to showcase it for a certain amount of time.
So I’ve installed the wphone plugin that allows me to easily write and post blogs from my BlackBerry, which is what I’m doing now. If it does prove to be as easy as it seems so far, I may be blogging more often and possibly for no reason at all. It appears I can’t add photos to blog posts or even links. The interface could be a little slicker too. Hopefully somebody will finally develop an app for BlackBerry the integrates with wordpress more seamlessly.
I just realized that I haven’t written a single blog entry in well over a month. My last blog entry was relating to Twitter and it seems that’s where I’ve spent most of my time. It’s far to simple to use - and well - the microblogging seems to at first glance to take up far less time. This however is not the case. It’s addictive and probably takes up more time as a whole than simply writing a blog post every day. Yet one benefit is that the topic is constantly changing and staying fresh and interesting.
It has also been 3 months since I started my new job as Web/Graphic Designer at Rouse Advertising. This has kept me quite busy and I don’t really want to sit down at a computer when I’m home after work and write a blog post.
Of course I will try to write more in the future, I may even talk a little more about things in my personal life since not many more people read this than friends and family anyhow. What I can promise is that I will be continuing to to work on discovering cool new ways to use social media and wordpress for sharing things like photo galleries, podcasting, etc. I am hoping to have a new page up soon with a photo gallery for real pictures that I take versus the Flickr phone cam gallery.
So keep an eyeball on me in your feed reader - I’ll definitely keep you abreast of updates.
So you aren’t using Twitter to stay connected to friends and family. Why not? Twitter is basically group instant messaging. Which can be great for getting some fun and interesting conversations started. I think that the Verizon commercials with the network following you would be much better suited to Twitter. When you’re using Twitter it really is like all those people are right in the same room with you. You can also send it through your FriendFeed, Facebook, MySpace and others. The down side is that so many tweeps think it’s so cool that the Twitter servers can’t quite keep up and they tend to be down quite a bit lately. At any rate, check it out! Okay - So I am quickly becoming a huge fan of flickr with the thanks to my blackberry. I’ve also found that the blackberry actually takes pretty decent pics for a cell phone camera. With my “real” camera I have to upload the photos to the computer, which of course then I’m going to adjust them in Photoshop, then I have to upload them to the internet. Quite a few steps just to share some silly pics with friends. With the blackberry I can take then pic, title it, then upload it straight to flickr with one simple push of a button. Now I find myself constantly looking for great photo opportunities that I can share with my friends!
To make things even cooler, I can add my flickr feed to facebook, and other fun stuff. I think you can even subscribe to the feed but I haven’t gone that far as to figure it out yet.
So all of this brings me to the real reason I decided to spill this little blog out here…. a photo gallery. I recently found a cool little tool that you can supposedly add to your blog and it will automatically update a photo gallery with your flickr pics. Yeah. Cool. Hopefully I will get it working this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled! Also - if it does turn out to be as cool as it looks I will definitely pass it on!
As most of you know, my computer died a couple months ago and I’ve had this desktop on loan from my mother. Well today I need to give it back so that she can take care of her end of year grades. (My mom is a kindergarten teacher.) As I am not yet financially able to purchase a new computer, I have upgraded my cell phone to a Blackberry Pearl and will have to use it for most of my blogging, tweeting, etc.
I know that a good number of my friends have done some mobile blogging and I would love to hear any tips, tricks, etc. that you might have. (Is there a good blackberry app to use with wordpress?)
Now will this get me to blog more or less? I don’t know yet. Let’s hope for more. But for the time being, this is probably my last “desktop based” blog post for a while. I’m sure that the posts to come will be much shorter for a while.

I suppose perhaps I should mention here when I add new stuff to the portfolio side of this site. I recently put together a little flash animation of a Ferrari. Nothing too fancy, but I’d love to hear thoughts and/or comments about it or anything else on the site. It would be nice to know what I can do to make the quality of my work better. It could also help me to get a better idea of the kind of design and skill set that potential employers may be looking for. Thanks!
